Angelique Kidjo

The aftermath of Notre Dame Cathedral’s reopening will be graced with the performance of several top artists including Angelique Kidjo. The Benin-born singer is listed to perform at the Notre Dame Cathedral on 7 December.

Alongside Kidjo on the stage on Saturday afternoon will be opera singers Pretty Yende from South Africa, Julie Fuchs from France and Lebanese singer Hiba Tawaji. Other artists include Chinese pianist Lang Lang and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Kidjo is a multilingual singer who moved from her country Benin in West Africa to Paris in the 1980s due to political conflicts. Having lived most of her life in Paris, she has a solid connection to the city and its people and is not new to performing in the vicinity.

Angelique Kidjo Performances in France

Kidjo was at the premiere of the IFÉ on October 3, 2015, at the Philharmonie de Paris. Kidjo took part in the tribute to the fallen African soldiers of the war on November 11, 2018, under the Arc De Triomphe of Paris. There she sang Bella Bellow’s song “Blewu” to 70 heads of state and millions of television audience.

Kidjo curated and performed a tribute to her idol Miriam Makeba at the Cirque d’hiver on September 25, 26 and 27, 2009 at the Festival D’Ile De France in Paris.

Her performance at the Notre Dame reopening on December 7 will add to her list of appearances at great events in Paris.

The most recent album of singer Angelique Kidjo is titled Mother Nature released on June 18, 2021. Mother Nature features several collaborations with young African producers and singers.

She is a recipient of several awards. The Médaille De Vermeil De La Ville De Paris award (France, 2004), Prix Découverte RFI SACEM (France, 1991), Octave RFI (France, 1992), Prix Afrique en Creation (France, 1992) are just but a few.
