On August 13, 2025, Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of popular BBNaija winner Phyna, was struck by a Dangote Group cement truck near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, shortly after her graduation.

Reports suggest that the truck driver may have been underage and unlicensed, raising concerns about hiring protocols and adherence to safety standards. Ruth suffered severe injuries, including leg trauma that initially led to amputation.

The incident ignited widespread public outrage, particularly given the status of Dangote’s company and the perceived negligence that allowed an unlicensed driver behind the wheel of a heavy truck.

Dangote Response

Dangote Group initially promised comprehensive medical support, including flying Ruth abroad for advanced treatment and providing compensation.

However, in subsequent weeks, Phyna accused the company of backtracking on its promises and violating her sister’s privacy by posting hospital photos without consent.

Despite efforts to secure advanced medical care, Ruth tragically passed away on August 31, 2025.
