Telecommunications giant in Nigeria MTN Nigeria has made a significant move towards tariff increase following the 50% approval by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The provider has updated users about the new prices. It said that “A price increase has been implemented to enhance our services and serve you better, which is why you are seeing the updated amount.”
However, the increase made by MTN does not appear to comply with the approved rate.
The information provided by the NCC’s spokesperson, Reuben Mouka, said that the commission’s approval enables a 50% maximum increase against current tariffs.
The NCC approval for a 50% hike deters the request made by the telecommunications providers for a 100% hike.
Mouka’s statement points out ongoing industry reforms that impact sustainability for operators but also emphasises the 50% rate, “The adjustment, capped at a maximum of 50 per cent of current tariffs.”
New Price of MTN Subscription/Data Plans
Consumers may have to reevaluate data usage. In the new price table for MTN, users of the 15GB data bundle will now pay over N6,000. It will charge N6.00/sms.
It has scrapped some other bundle plans and introduced new ones including the 90GB pattern which will cost N25,000 instead of N20,000 for 100GB. The 600GB bundle was revised to be 480GB and will cost N120,000 from N75,000.
The 1.5TB plan is now N240,000 from the previous N150,000.
