NCC New Spectrum Roadmap to Drive Nigeria’s Digital Economy Ambition

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled a new Spectrum Policy Roadmap for the Nigerian communications sector covering 2025 to 2028. It describes the move as an economic growth accelerator which will help Nigeria achieve its $1 trillion economy by 2030 ambition.

The roadmap was presented at a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja. It comes amid heightened regulatory activity by the NCC aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital ecosystem. The commission has also recently been improving service quality and attracting long-term investment into the telecoms sector.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, represented by Mr. Atiku Lawal, said the policy framework is designed to drive innovation. Additionally, it will enhance national security and expand broadband access across the country.

According to the Commission, efficient spectrum management remains a critical foundation for digital transformation and inclusive economic prosperity.

The NCC noted that the roadmap aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion digital economy by 2030. This further reinforces the central role of telecommunications in national development.

Mr. Lawal emphasized that effective regulation in the communications sector is a shared responsibility. He stressed that stakeholder participation will determine the quality and long-term impact of the policy. He assured industry players that the Commission remains committed to a transparent regulatory approach.

He also added that insights from the engagement will shape the future direction of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

The new roadmap comes at a time when the NCC has intensified efforts to address long-standing sector challenges. Infrastructure gaps, quality-of-service concerns, and the need for stronger investor confidence had been a major course for concern the last years.

Recent NCC actions and policy signals have focused on stabilizing the telecoms industry while positioning it as a catalyst for economic diversification and digital inclusion.

According to the Commission, the spectrum roadmap is expected to support innovation. More so, it will improve quality of experience for consumers, expand digital access, and foster increased investment in next-generation technologies.

These measures, the NCC says, will help position Nigeria as a leading digital hub and the digital heartbeat of Africa.
