Lisabi: A Legend Is Born

Following the success of Lisabi: The Uprising, a second instalment was scheduled to debut on Netflix Naija and the U.S. after its cinema release across Nigeria.

The Lisabi narrative adapts the life and legacy of a Yoruba revered of the name who engaged in freedom fighting for the people of Edga, a historic town where modern-day Abeokuta lies.

The narrative showcases his heroism back in the 18th century in a two-part cinematic piece. His pivotal role in leading the resistance of the Egba people who had been culturally and politically subdued by an oppressive leader.

Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, the historical drama seems to appeal to audiences and historians. The narrative for both the first and second parts has received praise for being Afro-centric. However, the accuracy of the events is inconclusive.

Lisabi: A Legend Is Born was co-written by Yinka Olaoye and Akinmolayan and goes back in time to the birth of the legendary Lísàbí Agbongbo-Akala.
